The Largest NSFW Subreddits on Reddit
Size isn’t everything, but the numbers show just how large Reddit’s adult ecosystem has become.
Among the communities we checked directly through Reddit, r/gonewild had approximately 5.57 million subscribers. r/nsfw had about 4.60 million, r/hentai about 4.48 million, r/porn about 4.34 million, and r/RealGirls approximately 4.27 million.
Other major communities include r/rule34 at about 4.16 million, r/NSFW_GIF at 3.36 million, r/PetiteGoneWild at 3.32 million, and r/milf at 3.06 million.
One reason subscriber counts can be misleading is that communities with similar sizes can operate very differently. r/RealGirls requires posters to be verified, while r/nsfw specifically prohibits people from submitting original content of themselves or their partners.
That’s why our ranking doesn’t simply sort communities by subscriber count.
How the NSFWLists Score Works
We wanted something more useful than giving every popular subreddit a vague five-star rating.
The NSFWLists Score considers five factors:
- Community size: 25% – Larger communities generally provide more variety and staying power.
- Authenticity and verification: 25% – Original-content rules and verification can reduce impersonation and reposting.
- Moderation and rules: 20% – We favor communities with clearly defined posting standards.
- Content focus: 15% – A community should consistently deliver what its name and description promise.
- Spam controls: 15% – Restrictions on excessive promotion, reposting, and low-quality submissions improve the browsing experience.
A smaller verification-focused subreddit can therefore outrank a much larger aggregation subreddit.

What We Intentionally Left Off This List

We intentionally excluded several types of communities:
- Subreddits that appeared inactive or unavailable.
- Extremely small communities with stronger alternatives.
- Communities built primarily around spam or outside promotion.
- Duplicates offering almost the same thing as a stronger subreddit.
- Age-ambiguous niches.
- Communities centered on potentially non-consensual themes.
The goal isn’t to produce the longest NSFW subreddit list on Google. It’s to produce one where every entry has a reason to be here.
Original Content vs. Aggregated NSFW Subreddits
This may be the most important difference to understand before choosing a subreddit.
Original-content communities are built around the people appearing in the content submitting it themselves. Examples include r/gonewild, r/RealGirls, r/Nudes, r/Amateur, and r/GaybrosGoneWild.
Some of these communities also use verification systems.
r/RealGirls goes particularly far by requiring verification before users can post. r/Amateur also requires submitters to verify that they are actually the people appearing in their content.

Neither format is inherently better.
If authenticity matters most, start with the original-content communities. If variety and discovery matter more, aggregation communities can be more useful.
Are Bigger NSFW Subreddits Better?
Not necessarily, but that’s something you have to decide for yourself. The largest community in our dataset, r/gonewild, has more than 5.5 million subscribers. But specialized communities such as r/GoneWild30Plus, r/GaybrosGoneWild, and r/altgonewild still have audiences exceeding one million.
A huge subreddit usually provides more content and variety.
A smaller subreddit can provide much better relevance.
That’s why we wouldn’t recommend simply subscribing to the ten largest NSFW communities and ignoring everything else.
How to View NSFW Subreddits on Reddit
Reddit labels mature communities as 18+ and requires users to enable mature content before viewing them.
On Reddit.com, go to Settings → Preferences and turn on Show mature (18+) content.
Android users can enable mature content from Reddit’s View Options settings. On iOS, Reddit currently requires NSFW preferences to be managed through the Reddit website because of Apple’s platform requirements. Changes then sync back to the app.
Reddit also states that users must be at least 18 to access Mature 18+ content, and age verification can be required in some circumstances or regions.
Why Do Subscriber Counts Differ Between NSFW Subreddit Lists?
You’ll probably notice that different websites report dramatically different subscriber counts for the same communities.
A major reason is simple: many lists aren’t updated very often.
For example, current Reddit data puts r/gonewild at approximately 5.57 million subscribers. Older or less frequently refreshed guides may still list it in the mid-four-million range.
The same problem compounds across dozens or hundreds of communities.
That’s why we date our data rather than presenting subscriber figures as permanent statistics.
